Personnel training is one of the aspects that can make a huge difference in a company. Many businesses invest in training their staff adequately, but too often this expense is reduced when the company faces economic difficulties. In this article, we will delve into the topic of training to understand what it entails and why it is crucial, especially when it comes to rental services.
What is Training?
Training is a set of activities through which a company provides new skills to its employees. Some of these activities are required by law, such as training for apprentices, and are therefore mandatory, while others are at the discretion of the company.
Personnel Training as a Strategic Investment
Personnel training is undoubtedly an investment in both time and financial terms. Training workers involves costs and requires time away from their duties in the company. However, the return on investment is guaranteed, and there are two main benefits for the company:
- Quality of Work and Availability: A well-trained and qualified worker performs better, leading to greater efficiency. They will also be more involved, productive, and available.
- Competitiveness: A company that continuously trains its employees can count on more satisfied and productive workers. This leads to greater competitiveness, allowing the company to offer high-quality products or services while maintaining competitive prices.
Skills
Training aims to enhance the worker’s skills. Skills are divided into soft skills and hard skills. Soft skills allow employees to grow faster and contribute more quickly. Basic computer skills are an example of soft skills. Hard skills are more specific and require more time to be absorbed but ensure that the company has highly specialized workers. The ability to operate heavy machinery is an example of this type of skill.

The Importance of Personnel Training in Rentals
When using machines and equipment, safety is a priority, and being adequately trained can prevent dangerous accidents. Training is one of the most important services a rental company can offer to its clients and employees. The rental company provides two levels of training: training and certification.
Training is an activity through which the client renting the equipment is informed about its operation and correct use. At the time of equipment delivery, the rental company’s staff performs this activity and obtains a declaration on the training. It’s important to remember that the rental company is legally required only to obtain a declaration regarding the training provided by the employer (i.e., the client) and does not need to verify its truthfulness.
What the Law Says
According to Article 73 of Legislative Decree 81/08, “the employer shall ensure that for every piece of work equipment made available, the workers assigned to use it have all necessary information and instruction and receive adequate training related to safety regarding:
- The conditions of use of the equipment;
- Predictable abnormal situations.”
Certifications for the use of construction site equipment are part of mandatory training as prescribed by the State-Regions Agreement of February 20, 2012. The worker must follow a specific course, consisting of a theoretical and practical part, with a duration that varies depending on the machine in question. Unlike training, to provide certifications, the rental company must be accredited as a recognized training center.
Our Conclusions
We have seen how personnel training is a fundamental element for a company. In rentals, this concept becomes even more important to ensure safe work with dangerous machines and equipment. The correct use of these machines confirms once again that training is primarily an investment in one’s resources and structure.
